Christy Sports Expands to Montana with Acquisition of Lone Mountain Sports
Lakewood, CO -- December 21, 2021
Christy Sports LLC, one of the leading outdoor specialty retailers and service providers in the U.S., announced the acquisition of Lone Mountain Sports' assets, a premier ski and snowboard specialty retailer and rental operator slopeside at Big Sky Resort in Montana. The transaction closed on December 17, 2021; financial terms were not disclosed.
Lone Mountain Sports operated as a family-owned business since 1973, offering high-performance rental and demo equipment, full retail merchandise, and precision ski tuning and repair services at 39 Black Eagle Road in Big Sky, Montana.
The acquisition advances Christy Sports' strategic growth through targeted acquisitions and establishes their initial presence at Big Sky Resort's base village. This Montana location joins their premium network spanning Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, and Washington -- more than 60 stores across metropolitan, resort, and on-mountain locations. The company recently invested in a new rental inventory and fulfillment platform to integrate operations across the expanded footprint.
CEO Matt Gold stated the company is "laser focused to continue Lone Mountain Sports' tradition of great specialty service" while leveraging scale to enhance guest experiences. He thanked the previous owners, Scott and Carey Foster, for their collaboration.
Scott Foster emphasized that both businesses share a commitment to employee excellence and customer service, which influenced the sale decision. The location will remain operational under the Christy Sports brand name.
Gary Montes de Oca, VP of Business Development, noted the acquisition represents "a perfect match and the right strategic entry point" into Montana while maintaining the service ethos of the local team.
